CMS PGR Conference: Memory and Legacy

Description

The conference will commence with a keynote from Timothy Bolton, 'A Modern Archival Horror Story: The Scandalous Fragmentation and Destruction of the Archive of the Treasury of the United Kingdom in the 1830s'.

To conclude day one, Professor Diane Watt will deliver a reading of her latest book, God’s Own Gentlewoman: The Life of Margaret Paston, followed by a Q&A with Liz Herbert McAvoy. Indie booksellers, Heron books have kindly agreed to support the event, and copies of Diane’s book will be available to purchase on the day.

Professor Levi Roach will conclude Friday’s programme with his keynote, ‘‘Familial Memory and Dynastic Succession: Henry I, Otto I and the Creation of the Kingdom of Germany’.

The schedule includes an extended lunch break of 1.5 hours where delegates will have the opportunity to participate in workshops and peruse the medieval marketplace. UOB Reenactment Society and Bristol Common Press will be running workshops on both days. The marketplace will be open during the lunch break and delegates can purchase medieval inspired souvenirs from local crafters and printmakers, as well as browse the second hand book stall.

Day one will conclude with an informal social and pub quiz at the White Bear Social Club (133 St Michael's Hill, Bristol BS2 8BS) from 7pm-late.

The conference will conclude with dinner at Zizzi, Clifton Village. The restaurant offers a three-course set menu at £26.50, with plenty of options for gluten-free and vegan attendees, including a separate preparation area for those with allergies. No deposit required.
