Bristol University Symphony Orchestra 23/11/2024DescriptionSaturday 23rd November 2024, 7.30pm Victoria Rooms Auditorium, Queens Road, Bristol, BS8 1SA Bristol University Symphony Orchestra Conducted by Neal Farwell Missy Mazzoli: Orpheus Undone Augusta Holmès: La Nuit et l’Amour Anna Clyne: Masquerade Béla Bartók: Concerto for Orchestra Take a journey from darkness to light, in music spanning a century and half to the present day. We start in the Underworld, with Missy Mazzoli’s freeze-frame study on moments of loss and decision in the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. In contrast to those agonies, Augusta Holmès sings a passionate and tender love song in La Nuit et l‘Amour. Anna Clyne’s Masquerade plunges us into a different night-time experience, of whirling, carousing revelry. Our programme concludes with Béla Bartók’s celebrated Concerto for Orchestra, full of wistful folk melodies, stern argument, jinking dances and fizzing energy, wrapped around a central episode of his own unique ‘night music’. Tickets: balcony and stalls standard rate £15; balcony and stalls concession rate £10; £3 for UoB students (with presentation of student ID card). Tickets can also be purchased on the evening, via card payment. Please note, we are unable to accept cash payments.
