Detailed Description

How do we get more people engaged in local democracy using digital technology? How can we use technology to support wellbeing and health, and to help people move around the city more easily? In teams of 6, sixty local Year 12 students will work alongside students from the University of Bristol and University of the West of England, in a Future Cities-themed ‘hack’.

The session will employ: design thinking – showing how a human-centred design approach might inform their ideas; creative technology – identifying examples of emerging technology which could be used within the solutions they propose; and play – learning from the Playable City project to provide insights into engaging users. It will guide further debate on the issues; develop learning that can be applied elsewhere; and, critically, get the views of young people on the vision and planning for the future of our city. Part of Digital Bristol Week and the Festival of the Future City.

Please nominate students from year 12 who have a keen interest in the creative applications of STEM. We would like to ensure that students taking part are from diverse backgrounds, and that teams have a mixed gender split. A maximum of two teams per school will be accepted.
